IT Masterclass: International Data Protection

29 January 2019
Two Snowhill, Birmingham, B4 6WR
8:30 - 14:00

With the GDPR well and truly on everyone's radar, it is important not to lose sight of international data protection requirements that fall outside these regulations.

At our next IT Masterclass seminar the UK team will be joined by colleagues from some of our international offices to provide global insight on data protection regulations. We'll be taking a closer look at:

International data breaches

Managing a data breach can be a complex task when the breach occurs in one country, but even more so if the breach affects individuals in different countries. Organisations need to know whether, and if so how quickly, notification of that breach must be given, to whom, and what the likely penalties for failure to notify correctly might be. During this session we will discuss requirements of data breach reporting across a range of international jurisdictions, comparing and contrasting the key elements you should be aware of to avoid any unexpected difficulties.

Other common international issues

Data protection regulation varies across global jurisdictions, but issues such as the requirements for a DPO, data sovereignty, regulators' enforcement powers and extra-territorial effect are common across all. Our speakers will provide guidance on how to avoid the various pitfalls of dealing with these issues across a range of international jurisdictions.

Our speakers include, Helen Davenport, Rocio de la Cruz, Sheena Jacob, Tony Fielding, Jocelyn Paulley, and Wendy Wagner.
