And the Winners Are ... Medilink WM Healthcare Business Awards 2015 Celebrates the Best of Healthcare and Innovation Across the West Midlands

25 January 2016

The highly-awaited Medilink WM Medical and Healthcare Business Awards 2015 took place on January 14, bringing together business representatives, clinicians, researchers, and academics from the region’s medical and healthcare technology sector to reveal who would be walking away with our prestigious awards denoting excellence in a different category each, including Start Up, Innovation, Export, Partnership with the NHS, and Outstanding Achievement.

Held this year at Malmaison Birmingham, one of Birmingham’s most luxurious and popular hotels, situated at the heart of the Mailbox, the annual Medilink West Midlands Medical and Healthcare Business Awards provides an excellent opportunity to bring together leading organisations from across the sector and celebrate the best achievements across the West Midlands region as well as give guests a chance to enjoy a fun evening of networking.

Before a warm welcome and note of thanks was given by our sponsor Ingram Hawkins and Nock, guests were handed a dubious though as some may prefer to call ‘excellently innovative’ note each, which albeit fake and unable to be fixed by our respected magician proved to be perfectly exchangeable as chips to be lost at our casino tables - though recompensed hopefully by the new connections and contacts gained.

Following on from our networking reception, guests were seated for dinner before the awards ceremony began and the winners finally revealed to the excellent sound effects of make-shift drum rolls ...

We announce to you our winners:

Developing cost effective solutions aimed at reducing the burden of back pain on primary care, Spring Active’s tools are designed to enable health and social care integration, support self-management of long-term conditions and expand access to services, in line with Spinal Taskforce and NICE guidelines.

We'd like to thank our Start Up Award Sponsor - Calthorpe Estates.

Primasil Silicones and its academic partner the University of Huddersfield has enabled Paxman™, an innovative cooling cap that brings relief to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy by reducing the risk of hairā€loss during treatment.

The Paxman cooling cap consists of a compact refrigeration system connected to a lightweight silicone rubber cap. By lowering the scalp temperature, blood flow to the follicles is reduced which minimizes damage.

We'd like to thank our Innovation Award Sponsor - Marks & Clerk.

Joining forces with The Vitality Partnership, Digital Life Sciences have demonstrated an alternative digital model for delivering enhanced primary, community and specialist healthcare. The collaboration placed a successful bid for the Prime Minister’s challenge Fund money and has been awarded 3 Health Service Journal (HSJ) Value Awards.

We'd like to thank our Partnership With The NHS Award Sponsor - West Midlands Academic Health Science Network (WMAHSN).

With 4 new markets accessed, and product registration certification in a further 3, the impact of expanding Kimal’s direct operations has been seen immediately. In France, Kimal has opened a manufacturing facility and this operation will have seen the biggest impact to date. Lead times to the French market will have decreased and transportation costs reduced.

We'd like to thank our Export Achievement Award Sponsor - UK Trade and Invest (UKTI)

In 2015 the Group won three major awards for their achievements in International Trade; The Queen’s Award; Medilink UK National Award; and Insider Award, which has significantly helped to build the profile of the Group resulting in further major business wins.

The Group’s health education and self-care strategy leverages Britain's fantastic reputation for brands and manufacturing, building a thriving Midlands-based healthcare business, employing over 360 people, proudly making and exporting the best of British.

We'd like to thank our Outstanding Achievement Award Sponsor - University of Birmingham

As proven by the each and every shortlisted organisation, finalist, winner and indeed the high level of award entries and submissions themselves, the West Midlands is home to some of the most innovative and successful medical and healthcare companies, each with a great commitment to supporting product and service development with a view to enrich healthcare in both the region and beyond.

We’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of our winners and indeed all of our finalists, sponsors and guests for their help, participation and continued support in helping to celebrate the outstanding achievements in healthcare across the West Midlands and in making the WM 2015 Medical & Healthcare Business Awards such a memorable event.

Our winners now go on to represent the region at the national Medilink UK Awards, which takes place at the MedTech Innovation Expo, Ricoh Arena, Coventry in April this year.
