Department of Health Review NHS Procurement

13 July 2012

With the purpose of gaining views on actions needed to improve NHS procurement, the Department of Health issued a ‘Call for Evidence’ on 28th May 2012.

Led by sir Ian Carruthers, Chief Executive of NHS South of England, the exercise will be followed by the release of a procurement strategy later this year.

In addition to the call, the DoH has also published a guidance document, ‘NHS Procurement: Raising Our Game’, which sets out steps the NHS must take to respond to the procurement challenge.

The report, which contains 27 recommendations for NHS trusts and the Department of Health, focuses on taking immediate action to tackle the following six key areas:

•levers for change
•transparency and data management
•NHS standards of procurement
•leadership, clinical engagement and reducing variation
•collaboration and use of procurement partners
•suppliers, innovation and growth

MedilinkUK and trade associations will be raising awareness of the above opportunity, as well as providing opportunities to engage

If you would like the chance to ‘Have your Say’ on the Call for Evidence, allowing you to discuss your opinions about NHS procurement with members of the DoH and supply chain, book now to avoid disappointment.
