Imperial College Department of Orthopaedics - 'surgical training "competency" workshops'

10 January 2012

Imperial College Department of Orthopaedics recently ran their first surgical training "competency" workshop to quantify and improve the skills of young orthopaedic surgeons.

The training course used MITA deformity hip models developed in conjunction with Imperial College that are encapsulated in soft skin layer around the acetabulum.

The unique elements of the course developed at Imperial challenged the attendees to insert an acetabular cup implant into the correct orientation using three different surgical procedures and to measure the alignment outcomes of each.

Professor Cobb at Imperial College department of orthopaedics commented " It was great to see young surgeons being challenged in a training environment. Having them deal with both realistic anatomy and different of surgical techniques really seemed to enthuse everyone.  We will develop this kind of competency training in the future in both elective and trauma surgery.

MITA has recently agreed distribution of their product range in the following countries, USA, Canada, China and Japan. They are still looking for representation in Australia ,Brazil, Germany, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. if you are interested in working with them, please contact their business development director Oliver Browne-Wilkinson ( email link obw@medical- models.com) to find out more.
