    Robotic Arm Controlled by Paralysed Patients

    Two patients in the United States who are paralysed from the neck down have been able to use their thoughts to control a robotic arm, allowing one to drink unaided for the first time in almost 15 years.

    The system links a sensor, implanted on to the surface3 of the motor cortex in the brain and translates electrical signals into commands, to a computer. Thinking about moving an arm or leg activates neurons in this part of the brain, which then sends an electrical activity via a cable to the computer and translates into a command.
